The Armed Man A Mass for Peace By Karl Jenkins
The Armed Man is a powerful and compelling account of the descent into, and terrible consequences, of war.
Commissioned for the millennium by Britain’s Royal Armouries and dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo crisis, this work is a contemporary example of a mass based on the 15th Century French song L’homme armé (The Armed Man). Set within the framework of the Christian mass, The Armed Man is a major choral work which uses both sacred and secular texts.
The poignancy and relevance of the work is heightened by the fact that the CD was released on 10th September 2001, the day before the tragic events in the United States.
Karl Jenkins Karl Jenkins draws on a wide range of musical training and experience. After a classical training at Cardiff University and The Royal Academy of Music, he worked as a jazz musician with Nucleus and Ronnie Scott among others. His 1995 album Adiemus – Songs of Sanctuary and subsequent Adiemus projects have consistently enjoyed global success with 15 gold and platinum awards.
The performances at Carnglaze Caverns and Buckfast Abbey will be accompanied by an ensemble of two pianos, flute / piccolo, 'cello, two trumpets and three percussionists. A supporting programme of selected choral items completes the concerts.
